The heart of Nordic’s Heavy Lift Construction Vessel BOREALIS is the engine room where the main engine(s), generators, compressors, pumps, fuel–lubrication oil purifiers and other major machinery are located. The six Rolls Royce main diesel engines combined with their German built AVK generators have recently past the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). The dual fuel diesel engines were built in Bergen Norway and have a nominal output of max. 5,675 kW each.
The total power output of the RR diesel engines of almost 34,000 kW provides more than sufficient margin to meet any future power demand such as the possible installation of pipe-lay equipment. The power of the RR diesel engines will be distributed by an I.M.E.S.A. SPA (Italy) built main switchboard system delivering 6,6 kV and 440V / 220V.
The Vessel's DP3 propulsion system includes two 5.5 MW fixed pitch azimuth main thrusters and four 3.2 MW retractable azimuth thrusters plus one bow tunnel thruster of 2.5 MW. All underlying switch systems are designed and built by Imtech Marine & Offshore (Netherlands). The distribution of power is fully computerised, automatically switching between more than five thousand critical points.
The Heavy Lift Construction Vessel BOREALIS will have DNV Class notation “CLEAN-DESIGN”. The notation requirements are intended to reduce and limit the ship’s air emissions and sea pollution. The CLEAN-DESIGN notation stipulates defensive design, accident prevention and consequence limitation requirements, thus providing additional environmental protection.
Nordic Heavy Lift as a company are interested in promoting an environmental profile in line with our HSSE/Q policy. By adopting the CLEAN-DESIGN notation and by taking proactive steps we can clearly demonstrate that we will act accordingly to limit emissions and operational and accidental pollution. This higher environmental standard makes the HLCV BOREALIS even more sophisticated within the offshore industry.
